We will take a collaborative approach in developing an individualized treatment plan. Treatment options may include:
- Therapy
- Medications
- Combination therapy and medications
Therapy:
I am trained in both psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. Based on the initial evaluation and early appointments, we will determine which form of therapy is most appropriate for your situation, and often times, elements from other therapeutic modalities are intertwined.
In my experience, psychotherapy can be invaluable in helping someone get significant benefit from treatment. Some people may have very specific symptoms that they want to target, whereas others may have a general sense that something in their life just isn’t right. Therapy can potentially be helpful in both of these situations and I believe that nearly all people can benefit from therapy at some point to improve their emotional health. By discussing concerns in an objective and nonjudgmental environment, one can feel relief through the experience of feeling understood and through increased knowledge of oneself. Although talking about your concerns may bring up some difficult feelings, in a controlled and supportive environment therapy can ultimately be very beneficial. Therapy does take time and commitment, but the rewards can be great.
Medication Management:
Medications are used to target many different conditions and symptoms. They can be a very effective form of treatment. Medications are often used with therapy, but there are multiple situations where medications alone may be the preferred treatment.
I have several goals when managing medication. First, I want to select the medications best indicated for your specific situation. This involves not only considering your current symptoms, but also evaluating past symptoms, past medication trials, current medical problems, current medications, and allergies. Second, I want to make sure you are well-informed about the medications being recommended. We’ll discuss what to expect when starting a particular medicine, possible side effects, possible medication interaction, and much more.
Combination Therapy and Medication Management:
A combination of medication and therapy can be particularly helpful. As a psychiatrist trained and experienced in both modalities, I can offer both the services described above.
